CoolCanucks Blog ~ Dr. Lucy’s Yummy gluten free Cookies Review!!

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

Dr. Lucy’s Yummy gluten free Cookies are made without milk, eggs, peanuts or tree nuts, but you’d never know it—they’re delicious! Now one can enjoy gluten free cookies that taste so good and satisfies the sweet tooth!

Heavenly, gluten-free cookies are hard to find, but Dr. Lucy has found a way to beat that by creating the most delicious, gluten-free, vegan and allergy-free cookies on the market today. This company also sells many delectable flavors that honestly tickles the taste buds!

When Dr. Lucy Gibney learned her child had severe food allergies, she got down to some serious medical research — in the kitchen. Today, Lucy’s cookies stand as delicious proof that no one should have to sacrifice tasty treats because of their dietary concerns.

“Our Quality Assurance Program provides delicious treats for you and your family while doing everything we can to safeguard you from these specific allergens: gluten, milk, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts.”

With Dr. Lucy’s certifications for gluten-free, kosher and vegan products – you’re certain to find the perfect treat everytime!!

These cookies come in many tantilating flavors: Sugar Cookie, Cinnamon Thin, Oatmeal Cookie, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Maple Bliss, Ginger Snap, Holiday Sugars and Chocolate Mint! I also noticed a delightful snack on their website that is new to me, Gluten-free Chocolate Brownie Cakes! Oh they look so yummy!!!

All the cookies are made from a similar cookie “base” that consists of the in-house flour blend (garbanzo, potato starch, gluten-free oat, tapioca, sorghum and fava), evaporated cane juice, soy milk, several oils (palm fruit, soybean, canola and olive), filtered water, flavoring and citric acid from corn, crushed soybeans, soy lecithin, non-dairy lactic acid, beta carotene, baking powder, baking soda, salt, xanthan gum, calcium carbonate, annatto extract color, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, and methylcellulose.

Dr. Lucy’s cookies website describes the cookies as “crispy, crunchy,” and they hit the nail directly on the head. There is not a chewy bit to be found in these cookies. They’re seriously crunchy throughout. If you like your cookies crunchy, you’ll love these from the first bite to the last bite (which is often one and the same bite… since the cookies are pretty tiny, you can pop a whole cookie in your mouth all at once) and not even feel guilty!!

I received a couple of boxes of these amazing cookies. The mouthwatering flavors sent to me were Cinnamon Thin and Ginger Snap. They were extremely tasty and enjoyed by the entire household. No one complained, and even walked back for seconds. Melyssa is a really picky eater, and so when I am sent food or drink items to review, they must pass her taste test first. She gave Dr. Lucy’s Yummy gluten free Cookies a very big thumbs up, and continued to snack on them throughout the course of the evening. So if she loves them, I definitely know that you will love them! I really liked the yumminess of Dr. Lucy’s cookies too. What a great anytime snack, and also a welcomed addition to everyone’s lunch bag around here!

Dr. Lucy’s gluten free Cookies gets a huge thumbs up from CoolCanucks, and I will definitely be ordering more in the near future!!

CoolCanucks Blog ~ Nisim® International Review!!

Friday, May 10th, 2013

Nisim Inc. is a Canadian Company which has developed many innovative and successful products…such as Kalo® a hair inhibitor to prevent unwanted body hair from growing back, and Milagro a nail strengthener, as well as F.A.S.T.® Fortified Amino Scalp Therapy for the fastest growing hair possible!

Nisim is one of my all-time favorite hair-care products store, and Nisim International get’s bragging rights from this CoolCanuck!!

I cannot express how much I really love the F.A.S.T.® Fortified Amino Scalp Therapy shampoo and conditioner, and absolutely swear by these products! I have done a number of reviews for Nisim in the past, and they keep me coming back!!

F.A.S.T.® is designed to grow your hair as fast as humanly possible.  F.A.S.T.® line includes both shampoo and conditioner!

Nisim has created a product that has been clinically proven to control excessive hair loss and regrow hair. Nisim’s products are shipped around the world and also has distributors in more than 30 countries!!

Nisim’s® products are all made with natural herbal based active ingredients developed using the proprietary extraction methods developed by Nisim after over 20 years of research on the study of hair growth.

“All of our products are backed by a 100% money back guarantee. You can try our products risk free knowing that we will refund your money if you are not satisfied for ANY reason.” Nisim® International sells the BEST Hair Products out there!

I absolutely both the shampoo and conditioner from the F.A.S.T.® line and I honestly cannot rave enough about this product! I just adore it, period! It makes my hair look so shiny, smooth, and healthy —– as well as making my hair stronger! My hair also grows so much quicker! I love it that much!

Another great product that they carry is called Kalo. This is a NEW herbal solution to an OLD painful problem — Hair Removal!

“Nisim® began selling the Kalo® Hair Inhibitor product in the spring of 1997. Kalo has also been sold through hair salons and spas. Kalo® has been very well received in the market, so much so that there are many knock-off products; even one of the large drug companies has created a product to compete with Kalo®.”

This time around I was asked to review the new sulfate free FAST shampoo and conditioner 2 pack from nisiminc.ca and I absolutely LOVE IT! Finally, a shampoo and conditioner that’s good for you! F.A.S.T. sulfate-free shampoo is unbelievably rich and full of moisturizing lather, providing extreme hydration to chronically dry hair while being light enough for all hair types.

Sulfate, or sodium laurilsulfate (also known as sodium laurel sulfate or SLS), is a chemical used in many commercial preparations. It is often used for cleaning solutions in the kitchen. In other words, it is a grease cutter and a drying agent. It is also a surfactant.

A surfactant reduces the surface tension so that instead of having two small drops of water, they will now more readily combine to make one, larger drop. It will also permit the mix of oil and water, which does not happen under normal conditions because surface tension keeps each as their own entity.

Think about it, if sulfate can cut the grease in house cleaners, it can certainly destroy the natural oils that are in your hair. Without oil, your hair will turn frizzy. Your scalp will also become devoid of the natural lubricants. Your body’s response is to make more oil. This becomes a vicious cycle the more you wash your hair. Not only will your scalp become very oily, so will your forehead where shampoo is in contact with it.

FAST shampoo and conditioner from nisiminc.ca are my all-time favorites when it comes to hair care. This is the only shampoo and conditioner that I will use, and nothing else even compares to it! I love the smell of it, and the way that your hair feels after you step out of the shower is great!

The biggest benefit is that you may actually gain some hair volume because of the health of your scalp and hair follicles will improve without the irritation of sulfate in your shampoo. So, if you have a sensitive scalp, chronically dry or brittle hair, colour treatments or perms, these are some of the reasons why sulfate –free shampoo is better for your hair.

As usual, nisiminc.ca get’s a huge thumbs up from CoolCanucks!!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Two Leaves Tea Company Review & Giveaway!!

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

Being huge tea drinkers at my house as well as at my parents, I just knew that I had to try all of the huge assortment of teas that Two Leaves Tea Company carries! After coming across their website, my eyes literally popped when I saw many different mouthwatering flavors that I have never tried before!!

I was sent a some of their famous Paisley teas, and as expected, they tasted just as good as described! We all had a field-day experimenting all of the scrumptious flavors in that box! These are the most delicious teas that I have tried yet!!

At Two Leaves Tea Company, you will find the best organic tea ever! They offer so many varieties of yummy teas that you can try for yourself, or even offer as gifts for your family and friends! Almost everyone that I know is a tea-lover, and now I have the perfect gift in mind for that person on my hard to buy for list!!

Choose from:

jasmine petal green

assam breakfast

earl grey

tamayokucha

chamomile

peppermint

gen mai cha

three tea sampler

better morning blend

better belly blend

better rest blend

mountain high chai

orange sencha

And so many more!!

“Founded in 2005, two leaves tea company™ began with a journey. Founder Richard Rosenfeld travelled the world on business, where meetings are synonymous with amazingly flavorful cups of tea. After returning to the states, Richard looked everywhere for a good cuppa’ tea…but had a hard time finding one.

Richard travelled to gardens in China, Sri Lanka and Japan to establish relationships with tea growers in order to bring premium, whole-leaf tea from the best harvests to tea drinkers around the world. Two leaves tea company™ has been recognized for the passion, care and effort that goes into cupping our tea, with awards such as the Best New Tea award for 2005–2006 from the Specialty Coffee Association of the United States, and the People’s Choice Award at the Great Canadian Tea Steep Off in 2006.”

“Our experiences at the gardens have taught us one incredibly important thing — how to recognize and appreciate great organic whole leaf tea. Our commitment to “go there” means we’re providing our customers with tea that tastes as if it has been plucked and steeped direct from the gardens.

Two leaves tea company™ was one of the pioneers of the pyramid shaped tea sachet that allows tea drinkers to experience whole leaf tea in the comfort of their own home. The sachet gives the whole tea leaves the ability to expand, yielding a rich, flavorful cuppa’ that can’t be paralleled.”

You just cannot go wrong when shopping at the Two Leaves Tea Company. Their prices are very reasonable, their customer service skills are phenomenal, and their delivery time was also beyond outstanding! I strongly recommend this scrumptious tea to everyone!! At this time, two leaves’ primary distribution in Canada is in foodservice (cafes and restaurants). Some of these cafes/coffee houses may also sell whole boxes of their tea. However, all of their products are sold on the website twoleavestea.com.

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Life without Plastic Freezycup™ Ice Pop Molds Review & Giveaway!!

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

Back in 2009 I discovered a phenomenal company called Life without Plastic when I had the opportunity of doing a review and giveaway with them. They sent me a Stainless Steel Airtight Watertight Food Storage Container as well as a Stainless Steel Hot Meal Container to test out, and these 2 products are still used at my house to this day! These products rock, period!!

We know too much plastic ruins the earth. And plastics containing BPA ruin our health. BPA is short for bisphenol A, and studies have shown that it can cause cancer and other medical illnesses in animals. Well, some companies are pioneering the move to BPA-free products, to keep us humans safe.

We’ve seen reference to the dangers plastic poses to marine life and wildlife, garbage that we humans directly and indirectly deposit in the oceans or on the earth, but how clearly have we received the message? Not clearly enough it seems!

Once animals, marine life or wildlife ingest plastic, thousands of spines lining the throat and esophagus make it nearly impossible to regurgitate. The plastic can lead to partial or even complete obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in decreased digestive efficiency, energetic and reproductive costs and, for some, starvation.

Plastics ingestion doesn’t always cause death, but there are clearly health risks! The frustrating, yet hopeful aspect is that humans can easily begin addressing the solution, without major lifestyle changes. It’s as simple as reducing packaging and moving towards alternative, biodegradable materials and recycling.

And this is why I am certainly grateful for “Life Without Plastic”!!

About this wonderful company, a blurb from their website:

Who We Are: Activists for a Plastic Free Planet

“We launched Life Without Plastic (“LWP”) in 2006 after several years of daydreaming about how to make a contribution to reducing the large quantities of plastic that are consumed every second of every day around the world.  We played with ideas for raising awareness about the issue. We wanted to address the environmental disaster that the consumption of plastic is causing, and the damage that leaching plastic can cause to human and animal health.  We quickly realized that before we could effectively help people reduce their plastic consumption, we had to be able to point them toward non-plastic alternatives that could replace the plastic items currently used in day-to-day life.  When Life Without Plastic was created, very few alternatives existed in the North American market, especially for food and drink containers.  Our son was born in 2003, and he was the catalyst. He made us look more actively for alternatives in North America and in other countries around the world.  This is how Sanctus Mundo, our unique product brand, came into existence.

Fast forward three years to 2009 and here we are.  There are now many more alternatives to plastic products available thanks, for example, to the tremendous media attention on bisphenol A over the past two years.  Yet one thing we are noticing is that the quality of these alternatives varies significantly.  There are some wonderful new products created with a real concern for quality, health, the environment, and workers conditions. But there are other products out there that are unsafe.  For example, not all stainless steel is created equal, and as with many things, price is often an indicator of quality.

As we continue to fulfill our goal of making available more and more high quality alternatives to plastic products, we are now able to begin focusing increased attention on an equally important element of our mission:  raising awareness about plastics issues by providing solid science– and experience-based information and showing people, one person at a time, the beauty and simplicity of a life without plastic.”

This great company carries all sorts of alternatives to plastic, making the environment such a better place.

They sell all kind of sweet products, including:

Bags

Child and Baby Products

Food Storage

Non-Plastic Toys

Tableware

Water Storage

This time around they sent me some fantastic Freezycup™ Ice Pop Molds to try out and as per usual, Life without Plastic did not disappoint!!

Summer at the Diotte household means refreshing popsicle time. We eat popsicles all throughout the day and the evening. We devour them when we’re blazing from the hot summer sun, like we have been for most of this summer. We chow on popsicles at any old time because they are refreshing, fun, and when they’re not loaded with sugar and artificial food colouring like the ones you might buy in the store, they’re very healthy and also an eco-friendly soothing snack for people both young and old!

These Freezycup™ Ice Pop Molds are made of stainless steel and come with three reusable bamboo sticks and two silicone gaskets each.

Popsicles are one of the easiest make-it-yourself treats both because they’re quick (not counting freezing time), and because they use up fruit that might be too ripe to eat but very easy to puree. All you need to make popsicles is:

* Life without Plastic Freezycup™ Ice Pop Molds

* a mixture of whatever tinkles your fancy, (whatever you would like to eat in your popsicle)

* a blender of some sort to puree the ingredients so you can pour them into your Freezycup™ Ice Pop Molds; and

* a funnel so you can easily pour the puree into these awesome Ice Pop Molds.

These are the best Freezycup™ Ice Pop Molds by far that we have ever tried! No more shopping for supermarket popsicles now thanks to these molds from Life without Plastic! They rock!!!!!

♥→I received product for review. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products. Your opinions and results may differ than mine.←♥
