CoolCanucks Blog Contest – Nalgene “On the Fly” Bottle Review & Giveaway!!CLOSED

Monday, March 21st, 2011

“Here at Nalgene Outdoor, we get a lot of mail from campers, hikers, and other active outdoorspeople who love their Nalgene bottles. In fact, NALGENE Outdoor Products are recognized by explorers and adventurers around the globe.

How did these bottles get so popular? Where do they come from?

How it all started…
Back in 1949, a Rochester, New York chemist named Emanuel Goldberg developed the first plastic pipette holder. Along with three workers, he began the Nalge Company in a small building at 625 South Goodman Street.

For years Goldberg and his growing team developed the NALGENE line of state-of-the-art polyethylene laboratoryequipment: centrifuge bottles, filter units, storage tanks.

Obviously, it wasn’t the kind of stuff you toss into your backpack for a weekend in the woods.

But there were rumors floating around … stories about scientists taking the smaller, more convenient bottles out of the lab and using them on hikes and excursions.

By the 1970s this “unofficial” use for NALGENE bottles caught the eye of Marsh Hyman (President of the Nalge Company in Rochester, New York).”

Just about everyone knows the Nalgene brand for their classic 32-ounce wide-mouth water bottles. However, they are expanding their line of bottles and debuted a few new styles! One of those was the OTF (On the Fly) water bottle.

The OTF is a bit smaller (24 ounces) than Nalgene’s Everyday bottles, it makes up for it in usability and convenience. The wide-mouth bottle has a slim profile, so that it can fit into standard car cup holders and bottle sleeves in packs. But what really sets it apart from other water bottles is its cap. The locking, leak-proof top swings open with a simple push of a button. Under the cap is a raised and contoured drinking spout with an opening about the same size as a soda bottle. The top swings completely out of the way for ease of drinking. When you want to close and stow the bottle away, there is a locking bail to ensure that even if the button is pushed, the lid won’t open and a silicone dome under the lid keeps a tight seal with the spout to eliminate leaks.

nal

I am completely attracted to the Nalgene “On The Fly” water bottle because of the locking lid. One problem that I have had with some of my water bottles is that the lids, even though they have some fancy plastic push-lock mechanism, always seemed to wear out after a few months of use. This would lead to it not being reliable to put into the side sleeve of a backpack worry-free. Also, each and every single water bottle I have owned claims to be “leak free” but none of them have ever lived up to the test until now!

The tight seal around the lip of the bottle actually makes me feel like this may be a long term winner.  It holds a 3/4 litre of water  which is a whole lot of space! And the best thing: it has etchings on the side of the bottle to indicate how much water you are drinking!

•Approx 9 1/2 inches tall
•Weight 136 grams
•Dishwasher safe
•Compostable EarthFirst® bottle “shrink sleeve” packaging is made from renewable plant resources
•The bottle is made in the USA.  The cap is made in China •Push button opens closure
•The OTF cap will fit on some other wide mouth bottles

Nalgene is certainly a reputable name brand my family swears by and trusts!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest – Nalgene Grip-n-Gulp Bottles for Children Review & Giveaway!!CLOSED

Nalgene makes water bottles for athletes, hikers, bikers, and even children! This reputable company is well known across the world and it is certainly a name brand that everyone trusts!

I used to wonder why it seemed that everyone on the track had a Nalgene bottle with them. Now that I have my own, I totally understand and can completely relate as I was sent a really cool OTG — Spring Green — Everyday Bottle in Spring Green and love it so much!!

These bottles are extremely durable, BPA free (the new ones), don’t leak, and keep water or sports drinks tasting fresh. I’ve dropped my Nalgene on rough rocks many times, but besides a few scratches it never has cracked or leaked!!

I was also sent some Nalgene Grip-n-Gulp bottles for children to review, and they totally exceeded my expectations!

Nalgene Grip-N-Gulp water bottle for kids and toddlers!
Nalgene containers have stood up to some of the worlds most extreme conditions.  The new Nalgene Grip’n Gulp is tough enough to survive being thrown from a moving minivan, spill proof enough to compel parents to blame the rug stains on the dog, and odor proof enough to allow leftover milk to go undetected under the couch for months. Most importantly, its a great way for little kids to reach new heights.

My nieces used these all weekend at camp and they are beyond outstanding!! In fact, my sister-in-law is in the midst of ordering a bunch more of these as she said they are definately a must-have and she just cannot live without them now!!
