CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Lilikin&Friends Review & Giveaway!!

Saturday, August 25th, 2012

Introducing Lilikin&Friends, the hottest new plush toys available on the market!

Most people absolutely adore stuffed toys, both young or old! We all have many emotions that we share … smiling when we are happy, frowning when we are sad, the look of wonder when we are confused. But no matter what, Lilikin&Friends stand by your side no matter what!

“Lilikin&Friends are top quality plush toys made with cotton fabrics that are certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). They’re stuffed with eco-conscious recycled polypropylene fibres, and have been tested and approved as safe for even the very youngest of our friends.”

Lilikin & Friends were born in the summer of 2009. Created by Kimberley Cleland a seasoned toy designer with 10 years of industry experience with children’s toys. The company is based in Montreal and is 100% Canadian which rocks!!

Lilikin is the melancholy grey kitten. Mollycoddle is the ultra-dainty albino bunny, and  Eleven is the small-for-his-age monkey! They are so soft, adorable, certified organic, and each has their own little personality!!

We had the opportunity of reviewing the Mollycoddle: The Ultra Dainty Albino Bunny and baby Riley went crazy over her! Mollycoddle has fit in perfectly since Riley loves bunnies, and she shares her love of baked goods and cake pops with Mollycoddle!! She is so beautiful because she’s more girly and wears a pretty pink ballerina skirt!

Mollycoddle is 18″ from head to toe and weighs approximately 1 lb.  All branding material is printed on recycled post-consumer waste paper with vegetable-based inks. Stuffed with polyester fiber and recycled polyethylene pellets for a heavy, droopy body that can be gently posed!

Lilikin&Friends gets a huge thumbs up from CoolCanucks, and I recommend that everyone own one, or all three!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Tatcha Japanese Skin Care & Beauty Products Review & Giveaway!!

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Japanese geisha are well known worldwide for their mystery and beauty. When Victoria Tsai, founder of Tatcha, learned of a book published in Japan in 1813 that described 156 skin care ingredients and detailed instructions about how to use them, she was inspired to create a 4-step skin care regimen, or “ritual,” based on that of the geisha.

People by the millions have been singing the praises of Tatcha blotting papers since they first swiped one across their oily foreheads in 2009! Tatcha founder Victoria Tsai definitely proves that her phenomenal company is no one-hit wonder with the release of a full skin care line based on authentic Japanese beauty rituals!!

“To be clear, this is no Memoirs of a Geisha fantasy. Years of hard work, befriending Kyoto locals, and much sleuthing led Tsai to a 200-year-old text and a rare opportunity to meet with a real geisha girl (with skin so flawless, it brought the brand founder to tears).

Tsai enlisted scholars to translate the text and met with scientists who helped her formulate a base recipe of green tea, Okinawa red algae, and rice bran. The awesome result was a skin care collection spanning camellia cleansing oil, exfoliating enzyme powders, licorice-rich brightening serum, and a silky moisturizer!

When one looks at a Japanese ladies face, they see nothing but sheer beauty. You see perfectly gorgeous milky white flawless skin, and never notice a flaw in my personal experience. I am so jealous of their natural beauty, and often wondered why their skin was always perfect. After being able to review the Tatcha Japanese Skin Care products, I see why now!! Have you ever seen a geisha that had a blemish or pimple? I haven’t!

The newly launched skincare line centers around 4 key products; a 1-step Camellia Cleansing Oil, Rice Enzyme Powder, Brightening Serum and the Moisture Rich Silk Cream. Rather than load you down with unnecessary products, these are essentials perfect for every day use. The Camellia cleansing oil is lightweight, yet loaded with camellia and rice bran – ingredients filled with skin healing anti-oxidants.

For over 300 years, Japan’s geisha have been known for their beautiful, porcelain skin. TATCHA discovered their daily regimes in a 200-year-old manuscript. Tatcha has worked with teams of scientists, scholars and geisha themselves to decipher the rituals and ingredients from this text.

Their all-natural formulas carries the secrets of the geisha involving the most precious green teas, Okinawa red algae, rice bran and other time-tested ingredients.

My own personal main concern is redness on my cheeks and improving the overall texture of my skin without irritating it further as my skin is super sensitive. I think Tatcha is an excellent line (if not, the best one that I’ve tried) for these kinds of issues. The biggest improvement that I’ve seen thus far after a week’s usage is the reduction of redness and a clarity that hasn’t been there in years. It’s not instantaneous mind you and does not acheive your best look overnight in just one dose, but with continuous usage it does work, I promise you that. After just over one week some lingering spots have healed and lightened! Tatcha Japanese Skin Care & Beauty Products rock, believe me!!

I give Tatcha Japanese Skin Care & Beauty Products a huge thumbs up, and recommend that everyone try these amazing products!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ SuperTooth’s newest introduction to its Bluetooth Speakerphone line – the Crystal Review & Giveaway!!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

If you need to make a hands-free call while driving or otherwise, you need a solid Bluetooth headset as it is now the law to not be using your cellphone up to your ear manually or face a hefty fine! Most phones sold these days have the awesome speakerphone mode. This setting is usually good enough for an impromptu hands-free call in a small and quiet office or space. However, when you get on the road in a loud vehicle, the phone’s flaws are immediately made apparent. For example, the built-in microphone can be less than ideal for canceling the levels of road and wind noise present in a car at highway speed, which leads to poor quality on the receiving end of your calls. I’m sure that you hate having to repeat yourself over and over to callers as much as I do, so SuperTooth’s brilliant newest gadget called the Crystal improves call quality bigtime!!

The world’s best-selling intelligent headset just got better. The SuperTooth Crystal is a Bluetooth car speakerphone. This baby links wirelessly by Bluetooth with your phone and allows you to have hands-free calls while driving. The SuperTooth promises high quality in-car Bluetooth connected speakerphone action which is definitely does! Simply clip in on your visor and it works excellent! It is compatible with basically all cellular phones such as the smartphone, android, and even the iPhones! The metal clip connects to the actual device via the Crystal’s built-in magnet, and you’ll be good to go if you want to keep the device up above you on your sun visor or if you want to pop the device off for a moment’s inspection. This device is 130 x 50 x 14 mm, small enough to fit in your hand or pocket quite easily, and has a battery capacity that will have you talking for 20 hours or working with 40 days of standby.

The SuperTooth Crystal is an awesome Bluetooth car speakerphone as it can play back music from Bluetooth A2DP enabled phones, announce GPS instructions as well as function as a hands free system. This last feature is great for those with stringent hands free driving laws that are strictly enforced nowadays!!

I received a black one to review and I love it so much!!

Simplify Your Life with Erica Ehm and BIC Velocity Bold! ($100 Giveaway!!)

Study Reveals Canadians Choose the Power of the Pen to Help Organize Hectic Lifestyles

BIC Inc. partners with multi-faceted mom, Erica Ehm to offer tips and advice on how to simplify our lives with handwritten notes and doable to-do lists

Life is busy.  Work. Grocery Shopping.  Errands.  Household chores.  More errands. Add a child or two and life gets even busier.  Sometimes, there’s the need to take a moment, grab a pen and paper, and write a to-do list!

Reliance on technology for many everyday tasks is at an all-time high, yet a recent national study of adults by BIC, conducted by Canadian Omnibus, reveals that 85% of Canadians most often handwrite notes or lists to stay organized.  A global leader and distributor of ballpoint pens, BIC has partnered with founder/publisher of yummymummyclub.ca, Erica Ehm, to help provide sound advice on how to organize our lives with effective hand-written notes and to-do lists.

“From my own experience, I face multi-tasking challenges every day, so I understand all too well the importance of handwriting notes and lists to help simplify my life,” says Erica Ehm, an author, actress, journalist, businesswoman, mom and wife who juggles it all.  “No doubt technology is important – but the fact remains that when you write something down such as a to-do list, you seem to get it done!  This leads to a happier more productive and less stressful lifestyle within both the work place and home.”

How to Make Your To-Do List Doable

Do you often feel overwhelmed by the amount of work or chores you have to do or do you sometimes just forget to do something important?  All of these are symptoms of not keeping a proper “to-do list.” There’s no better feeling than checking something off your list — Finished! Complete! Mission Accomplished!   To ensure your to-do list guides you through your day, Erica has these time-saving tips!

  • Set aside 10 to 15 minutes before you go to bed or as soon as you wake up in the morning to jot a to-do list for the day;
  • Keep your list short (under 20 items) and ensure it is on one page and can be carried with you wherever you go;
  • Try assigning tasks to hourly slots, even if exact timing isn’t crucial;
  • Figure out when you are most productive and alert. Schedule the more demanding tasks during these times;
  • Schedule an easy job after a difficult one or a long task after a short one to keep yourself stimulated.
  • Use specific, active verbs when you tell yourself to do something and include as much information as possible (i.e. Phone the dentist at 555‑1235 to book an appointment the first week of October)
  • Keep a pen and pad of paper by your bed at night.  Write down any ideas or tasks you think of thru the night so you can clear your mind and have a restful, worry-free sleep.
  • Log your completed tasks and revel in your own productivity!

“The process of putting pen to paper for important notes and lists makes it a personal commitment and helps retain the tasks more firmly in our minds,” says Erica. “I also believe a person’s hand-writing is expressive and very special and I love receiving hand written lists and notes from my children.  Knowing they took the time to handwrite a note or card for me is very intimate and shows thought and care.  Those take pride of place in my office!”

Canadians Want Handwritten Praise!

The study also revealed many Canadians prefer to receive a handwritten note of praise or thanks from each of the following people compared to an email – especially from our family!

Handwritten Note vs. Email

  • From our Spouse/Partner 64% 7%
  • From our daughter/son 54% 9%
  • From a Family Member 49% 17%
  • From a Close Friend 44% 20%
  • From our Boss 37% 25%

Reduce emails and connect with family & friends by sending them handwritten notes, birthday cards and thank you notes throughout the year.  Include a handwritten note in your husband’s suitcase before a business trip and your child’s lunchbox or overnight bag for their first sleepover.  The simple act of writing a note of thanks and appreciation speaks volumes!

Make a Smooth Transition Back to School and Work!

The survey also indicates that 90% of Canadians feel writing smoothness and overall quality are important features when using a pen to handwrite a note.  Handwriting should be smooth and polished and a good quality writing instrument is key!  To help Canadians make a smooth transition back to school and work after a lazy, warm summer season, BIC offers the Smoothest Pen in the Universe™ — the Velocity® Bold ball pen.

This retractable pen features the Easy-Glide System® — BIC’s exclusive ink technology, for smoother writing and a more vivid line. Its moulded rubber grip and 1.6 mm bold point gives the user writing control when putting pen to an important contract or exam with a more bold, vivid line of ink. Velocity Bold ball pens are available at major retailers. Manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $4.49 for a package of four.

I received some for review and I love them so much!! I love the way they feel in my hand while writing, the glide so smooth and do not smear, and they come in a gorgeous array of colours!!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Dog Trots Globe — To Paris & Provence (Hardcover book) Review & Giveaway!!

Monday, August 20th, 2012

This is the story of Chula, a Shetland Sheepdog who travels to France, from California, at the grand old age of nine. It chronicles her adventures from Provence, to Paris, and back home again. There is even a handy hints and tips for travelling on an aeroplane with a dog which is extremely helpful!! This book was written about Chula’s point of view when travelling.

As a pet owner, I could really appreciate the humorous slant that the dog’s perspective gives.

Dog Trots Globe – To Paris & Provence does what every travel book aspires to: it convinces a reader who has never visited a place to want to go and evokes memories in those who have already been there. Toss in over 150 colorful photographs and a beautiful Shetland Sheepdog and you have an enchanting travel book!!

Author Sherry Long is not at all unfamiliar to Pet travel. 8 years ago she started traveling across country with her then 9-month-old Sheltie, Chula, getting her accustomed to and comfortable with the new experiences that occur on a daily basis while traveling with your prescious dog, your best friend!

As overseas travel with dogs appears to be sprouting wings (thankfully), Sherry has come out with a book on her experience traveling to and in France – or should I say her dog Chula has? I personally detest leaving my dogs at home when I am off traveling, and yearn for them every single day that I am without them!! Dog Trots Globe is one dog’s view on the wonders of the markets, the fields and the sausages of Provence and the somewhat less joie de vivre experience of Paris due to limits on where you can take your dog. Dogs are not allowed to experience art at the Louvre, but most restaurants will allow them to dine inside if you ask prior to visiting!! :)

Chula endured a bit of a walk on the wild side, boldly snatching a baguette from a shopper’s bag as the delicious aroma must have been too tempting! Every day was a new adventure – even the scary one in the South of France involving thousands of animals Chula had never seen before, and that was a bit much for her according to Sherry, but Chula gamely conquered her fears when she met these creatures later in the countryside!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Ecover Natural Cleaning Products Review & Giveaway!!

Sunday, August 19th, 2012

As many of you know already, I am a huge fan of trying to coax everybody that I know to live a greener life. Going green is not as hard as one thinks, it can be done very easily. Less waste, less cost, and less of leaving a footprint on mother earth. I find all of this very important, as should you.

Recycling is an action you must take right now and a vital one considering we are currently using our planet’s resources faster than they can be renewed. Today, tonight and tomorrow recycling is an ongoing awareness to improve our ability to sustain life on Earth. Your role in recycling can be as small or large as you want it to be. Most things can be recycled today, even with our present processing systems.

For some, it can be hard to imagine a world without plastic – especially plastic bags.

The cons of using plastic bags are so overwhelming I don’t think I can think of any pros. They are a huge pollution problem, their lightweight design allows them to blow away easily. The fact that they are free gives them no value so people don’t think about how they dispose of them. They are made from petroleum, which could be used for fuel or energy. They don’t biodegrade, instead they breakdown and are mistaken for food and are often eaten by both land and marine animals which is fatal. They are found everywhere and many animals become fatally entangled.

They are not biodegradable, so they will persist pretty much forever, wherever they end up. Landfills if we are lucky, but because of their widespread use and their ability to fly away in the wind, they can be a big part of the trash along roads and fields. If they get into the water, they look like food and end up clogging the stomachs of a variety of animals, most famously sea turtles looking for jellyfish.

The recycling of plastic bags, while preferable to other disposal methods, is not cost-effective. Plastic bags have only existed for 25 years yet the billions that have been produced since then have caused immeasurable damage to the environment and to wildlife.

With that in mind, I was ecstatic to find ECOVER while surfing the web who have already taken these steps toward a more happy and greener world!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Back to School with Naked Binder Review & Giveaway!!

Saturday, August 11th, 2012

As most of you know, I am all about green companies and eco-friendly products, and Naked Binder is certainly no exception. Naked Binder is a company committed to creating durable, very high quality and useful products that leave less of a footprint on the earth.  They believe that long life, strength and beauty go hand-in-hand in the fight against an ugly, cheap, disposable society.  Naked Binder is constantly working to improve their products and processes, looking for ways to cut down on waste and packaging.  All of Naked Binder products are either recycled or recyclable which is phenomenal!

I recently received an assortment of Naked Binders to review. I noticed right off the bat that these binders were much sturdier than the vinyl binders that we normally purchase for school use. They also sport a very pretty array of colours on the spines so you can colour coordinate your projects or pick a specific colour to blend into your decor!

• 100% recycled board, 97% post-consumer waste
• completely recyclable
• acid neutral board
• no plastic, vinyl or toxic chemicals

Using eco-friendly products help conserve natural resources, such as; wood, electricity, water and oil. Biodegradable and recyclable products will also cut back on waste that goes to landfills and helps prevent pollution from leaching into the ecosystem. Recycling helps preserve the environment and supports the economy.

To make the biggest impact with eco-friendly products you should both buy eco-friendly/recycled products and reduce, reuse and recycle the products you buy.

Using products made from recycled materials such as what these binders are made of, reduces the impact on the environment in a few ways. In the example of paper, less trees are being cut down. The number of chemicals used in the production of new paper is reduced. Land-fill sites have been spared at least the amount of paper that was recycled! What a brilliant way to partake in living an eco-friendly lifestyle! Naked Binder is an Eco-friendly option for school supplies that kids or parents already buy but without all the vinyl and PVC. They are 100% recyclable, 100% recycled, 100% PCW and FCS certified. Along with being greentheir binders are also strong enough, for even the roughest kids, to make it through the year with one binder. They were tested by flexing them over 250,000 times without fail, that is equivalent to using the binder 20 times a day for over 30+ years without it breaking. They also go one step furtherby being a member of the 1% for the Planet program. Being a member means 1% of their sales go to environmental organizations around the world.

About Naked Binder:

“Started in 2008, Naked Binder emerged having multiple goals: sustainability, great design, preserving wilderness we love and giving back to education that helped us get here.

We designed the strongest, most sustainable 3-ring binders available — cutting waste in manufacturing, processing and travel.  We make our binders, folders and tabs in Des Moines, IA in the US of A out of FSC certified, 100% post-consumer waste binders board, 100% cotton cloth, a few FSC certified papers and metal rings.  No plastics, vinyls or toxins.

We designed our 3-ring binders to look so good you won’t want to get rid of them.  We have everything you might need to impress a client, store your taxes or decorate your office.

Naked Binder donates to support wilderness areas and schools around the US. Learning to think and space to think in are important for a better world.
• 1” ring holds 170 sheets of paper”

I give Naked Binder a huge thumbs up, and recommend that you try these out for yourself! They are perfect for all of your back to school needs that is very quickly approaching!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Sharpie Canada ~ Sharpie Brush markers Review & Giveaway!!

Friday, August 10th, 2012

Growing up, we used nothing but Sharpie when pertaining to writing products. I always enjoyed colouring and drawing, and had so much fun creating my own special little things on paper as they crossed my mind. One could say that I was often in my own little dream land, but it was a happy place, and didn’t want to leave it.

Sharpie is number 1 in my books. I love the way they feel in my hand while I am writing and/or drawing. They glide so smoothly on the paper, and never seem to be “blotchy” or smear unlike a lot of other writing utensils.

Interestingly enough, I read an extremely awesome article on the world wide web the other day, and it had listed the 10 most creative uses for Sharpies!

I will list them right here:

1. Decorate ceramic tiles.

2. Be creative with old encyclopedias.

3. Decorate your laptop cover.

4. Decorate walls (but get your landlord’s permission first if you are renting).

5. Decorate your car and guitar.

6. Tie-dye a t-shirt.

7. Create designs on wood.

8. Do art on styrofoam cups.

9. Decorate a mug.

10. Turn milk cartons into vases for fake flowers.

How brilliant! I am sure there is at least one creative use that you would love to try! These ideas are also great for people of all ages!!

Let’s
Get Expressive

Sharpie’s New Back to School Style

“Self expression is all about demonstrating personality and feelings through creativeactivity.  Kids love it.  Teens are amazing at it. They craveindividuality and often express it through their school projects, style and clothing.  Let’s face it… self expression is fun!”

Brush
It Bold

“The new Sharpie® Brush Tip marker uses the famous bold permanent Sharpie ink but with a new brush tip that creates fine lines, bold strokes and shading all with a single marker!  They’re perfect for expressing creative flareon traditional surfaces like posters and notebooks and on a wide variety of irregular surfaces – helmets, skateboards, bicycles, signs, and so much more.”

It’s no doubt that Sharpie is the highest rated and most popular markers in the world. I happened to have the opportunity to review these new Sharpie Brush markers and they certainly did not disappoint just as I expected. They come in an extensive array of gorgeous colours, and I was sent 3 packages containing 8 brush markers in black, berry, blue, light blue, orange, pink, purple and green. I also received a cool ceramic mug with even more markers in that, called a “Cup of Colour”.

With these brush markers, one can create fine lines, bold strokes, and even shading!!

One Tip. Plenty of Tricks.

  • Create fine lines, bold strokes and
    shading
  • Control the width of your lines — thick or
thin — with the pressure of your hand
  • Make your ideas permanent on almost any
    surface
  • Create with brightly colored, fade– and
    water-resistant ink
  • Quick-drying ink AP certified nontoxic
    formula
  • 12 assorted colors to make your marking
    unique

Sharpie Brush markers get’s a huge thumbs up from CoolCanucks, and I honestly recommend them to everyone out there!!
