  • Serves: 24
  • Yield: 24 cupcakes
  • Ready in: 1 hour 30 mins (1 hour Prep - 30 mins Cook)
  • These are a great for a children’s Halloween party! Chocolate cake mix is an easy option when you are making so many. Use liquorice for the legs and jelly beans or smarties for the eyes.

    Recipe provided by:

    Allrecipes

    Ingredients

    • 1 packet (500g) chocolate cake mix
    • 500g black liquorice strips
    • 500g white icing
    • mini jelly beans, smarties, snakes, fruit bats, cut up false teeth for decoration

    Preparation method

    1.   Prepare cupcakes according to packet directions. Let cool completely.
    2.   Cut liqorice laces into 8cm sections. Working with one or two cupcakes at a time, so the icing doesn’t set before decorating, ice the cupcakes with the white icing. Insert liquorice pieces into the outer edges of the cupcakes to make the legs of the spider, 3 legs on each side (4 take up too much space). Make eyes and fangs out of the other lollies in the scariest way possible. Repeat with remaining cupcakes.

    Tip:

Feel free to play around with the cupcake decorations — you can use Smarties for the eyes, or snakes for the legs. Just try to make it look as scary as you can!

  • Serves: 24
  • Yield: 24 Cupcakes
  • Ready in: 55 mins (30 mins Prep - 25 mins Cook)
  • These are great at Halloween. I use cake and icing mix to make it quicker but of course you can use your own recipes for these. You may want to use round biscuits and ice them up as ghosts instead of the iced graveyard and choose your own colours.

    Recipe provided by:

    Allrecipes

    Ingredients

    • 1 package (470g) chocolate cake mix
    • 1 packet (500g) prepared icing mix
    • 3/4 cup chocolate sandwich cookie crumbs
    • 24 morning coffee, shortbread or other rectangular sized biscuits

    Preparation method

    1.   Prepare and bake cake mix according to package directions for cupcakes.
    2.   Make the icing mix and ice the cakes when cool, reserving 1/4 of the mix.
    3.   Fill a pastry bag, fitted with a plain tip, with remaining icing. Draw a cross or R.I.P. on each biscuit. Stand a decorated biscuit on top of each cake so that it looks like a gravestone. Place the cakes on a large tray that has been covered with green paper. Place paper ghosts and bats randomly through the graveyard. Serve!
