The best part?  From now until July 22, 2012, they’re priced at just $5 each!

Pizza Hut — home of Canada’s favourite personal pan pizza, is adding even more excitement to its menu with the introduction of brand new gourmet pizzas for one.

Chef inspired Signature Singles combine Italian-style thin crust with unique and premium toppings.

And Pizza Hut is so sure that guests are going to love them that from June 11, 2012 to July 22, 2012 they are priced at just $5 each.

“The Signature Singles provide a range of fresh, contemporary, exciting options for those that prefer a thinner crust,” says Beverley D’Cruz, Director of Marketing at

Pizza Hut Canada.  “To thank and encourage Canadians to come out and experience the new pizzas we’re pricing them at just $5 each for the first few weeks.”

D’Cruz adds that Pizza Hut is continuing to renovate its dine-in restaurant décor and menu to create a more modern and contemporary casual dining experience for its customers.

Something for everyone!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Naughty Makeovers for Nice Girls Book Review & Giveaway!!

Saturday, June 9th, 2012

I’m not sure about you, but I am all for looking hot & sexy when it comes to dressing up for my hubby, or even for a night out on the town with my besties. A lot of ladies that I know have let themselves go after they got married as they reached a comfort level with their husbands and really don’t seem to care what they look like in the bedroom, or even while out with their spouse unfortunately.

Looking and dressing naughty makes one feel amazing on the inside, which honestly leads to a phenomenal sex life and higher self esteem.

Many girls that I personally know need makeovers. They really need to know how to apply their makeup and dress themselves properly to look very classy without looking trashy.

This new book by beauty maestro Dimitri James called Naughty Makeovers for Nice Girls shares a ton of advice to make a ‘nice girl’ become sizzling hot but still classy. Dimitri James says that “Nice” girls are invisible, “Trashy” girls go over the top, and “Naughty” is the happy medium that pushes the envelope without crossing the line. There are a few different chapters that range from: “Naughty at work” to “Naughty First Date” to “Naughty Traveler” and “Yummy Mommy.” Dimitri James also created a line of amazing premium skin care formulas and colour cosmetics called Skinn Cosmetics!

I am pretty certain that we all know ladies that play the ‘nice girl’ role in life. They fix their hair and makeup to appear prudish. They have no sense of fashion really, as they only apply a little lip balm to their face and nothing else. They brush their hair back into an ugly plain jane ponytail. They dress themselves in turtlenecks with a cardigan over the top, and wear a pair of ugly slacks that no guy would look twice at. I know a few like this, and it truly saddens me. A makeover is truly in order, and this book would do these girls wonders!!

That’s the mantra and message of the new “tell-all” how-to paperback, physical book from beauty maestro Dimitri James. In Naughty Makeovers for Nice Girls, James creates a new kind of finishing school–one for nice girls who always finish anywhere but first.

Tired of seeing the many “nice girls” in his life constantly overlooked, James, a celebrity makeup artist, style guru and television personality, offers a lively and entertaining read full of actionable tips and tricks, showing you how to get whom and what you want.

Those open the book will learn how to look classy, not trashy, trading the prim, proper uniform of “safe” clothing, makeup and hair for something sexier and more inviting, but still situation-appropriate. “You would be surprised how many women don’t know how to use clothes and makeup to market themselves in various social or professional settings,” says James. “‘Nice’ girls are invisible, and ‘trashy’ ones go over the top. ‘Naughty’ is the happy medium that pushes the envelope without crossing the line.”

Thus, James challenges the traditional connotations of the word “naughty” and redefines it as a spirit that can change both image and self-perception for the better. In chapters that range from “Naughty at Work” to “Naughty First Date” to “Naughty Traveler” and “Yummy Mommy,” the author shows readers how to dress outside the box and re-vamp their beauty regimens to add sizzle to their style for all seasons and occasions.

Flip open the physical book to almost any page and find a small gem of wisdom, or a stunningly clear depiction of “nice” vs. “naughty” vs. “trashy,” all sprinkled with James’ trademark wit, candor and spirit of camaraderie.
Naughty Makeovers for Nice Girls is loaded with makeup and fashion advice to empower a Nice Girl to transform herself into a spicy but classy woman in every situation. So, go ahead and channel your inner naughty. Instead of fading into the background, become a star in your own life!

Take your true beauty a step higher and look and feel stunning! This book teaches you about dressing up to look naughty, but not in a bad way. You don’t want to dress nice or believe me, you are going to get overlooked. You don’t want to dress trashy though, or you are going to seek the wrong attention. This is where dressing up naughty comes into play. It’s just about bringing out your true beauty in a fashionable way. Naughty Makeovers for Nice Girls: How To Turn Up the Heat and Add Sex Appeal to Everyday Situations will give you sweet tips on absolutely everything from dressing up, to fixing your hair and appyling your makeup!

CoolCanucks Review of SoftBums!!

Monday, June 4th, 2012

SoftBums consists of Sarah and Brian Van Bogart who are husband and wife.

The two have been in business since 2008. Sarah Van Bogart, founder, co-owner, and designer of SoftBums, has been sewing and designing diapers for over 10 years. She brings her unique experience as a mother of four, La Leche League leader and even training as a midwife to her products. She works extremely hard to provide the best products that she possibly can, because she knows how frustrating it is to have a diaper that doesn’t fit right, leaks, or even wears out after just a few months of use.

SoftBums were a brand of cloth diaper I wanted to try on my niece Andi. We were ecstatic when we were chosen for a review and giveaway with SoftBums here at CoolCanucks!

I received the SoftBums Echo System to try out in their vibrant pink colour and it is so pretty, just like baby Andi!! The Echo System includes an awesome shell as well as a Dry Touch Pod and a Dry Touch Mini Pod and with velcro closing. This diaper actually grows with your baby! SoftBums even offers other insert options such as Super Pods for your heavy wetters and Organic Bamboo Pods that are 70% Organic Bamboo and 30% Organic Cotton! So with SoftBums, it’s easy to customize your diaper exactly the way you want to. Take a look at all of the great features the Echo has to offer!

SoftBums Echo Features:

SoftBums Patent Pending Slide²Size is the ONLY variable adjustment of it’s kind
Fits all legs widths from 4″ — 14″ for NO red marks EVER. Made in the USA!
Choose your own Pods for a customized diapering system!
SoftBums Echo looks smaller than leading brands, because it’s Ultra Trim
No Leaks, Thanks to Slide²Size Technology!
SoftBums Echo protects against rash; up to 80% less rash than disposables!
Industrial strength velcro closures are long lasting and won’t “wear out” like other velcro
Reusable Echo shell saves money, space, and resources

I give SoftBums a huge thumbs up, and recommend them to everyone out there looking for a new and friendly alternative to diapering!!

I received the Lil’ Pea Protector which has many functional uses such as for seatbelt padding, a shopping cart protector, and pad the pea in the pod! We received this to review in the “ABC Design”. What a brilliant idea they had with this in mind!!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

CoolCanucks Review of the Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Vacuum for Dad ~ Just in time for Father’s Day!!

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

Ok readers. You all know that I am absolutely infatuated with Dyson Canada, and their phenomenal vacuums. I cannot tell you enough that Dyson sells the very best vacuums in the world, period.

The suction on these Dyson’s are totally amazing and they pick up basically anything on any floor whether it is ceramic, vinyl, carpet or hardwood! I have yet to have someone disagree with me about my opinion of Dyson Canada. They are, in my own personal opinion, the best vacuums that have ever been invented!!

Dyson is the most recognized and most popular brand of vacuums across the world. When one mentions vacuum cleaners, Dyson immediately comes to mind.

It’s definitely not a secret that Dyson produces and sells stand-out vacuum cleaners both upright and canister style. Dyson aims to continue their successful line of vacuums, and just recently I was able to review their awesome Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Vacuum!

Father’s Day (June 17, 2012) is fast approaching and the search for the perfect gift is on. By purchasing the new Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Vacuum for Dad, you will honestly make his life a whole lot simpler!!

The DC35 (also known as the Digital Slim) is Dyson’s latest handheld vacuum cleaner for multi-floor with a detachable long-reach wand and a motorized cleaner head.

The Dyson DC35 is also bag-less. All dust and dirt can be seen inside a transparent canister and with a press of a button, you can easily open the canister to dump all of that crap right into the garbage.

The power-efficient Dyson digital motor makes this cordless vacuum amazingly powerful!!

The Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Vacuum is a great pet hair picker upper, extremely convenient to store, is bag-less, cordless, has enough suction that a single-pass does the job, it has a no slip grip, and it is very easy to charge.

As you know, it’s always difficult finding dad something for Father’s Day that he does not already have. But now that the Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Vacuum for Dad has arrived, it’s here just in time for Father’s Day! This is the best Father’s Day gift by far!

“Dyson DC35 Multi floor is a Dyson Digital Slim™ cordless vacuum cleaner for multiple floor types– carpet, ceramic, vinyl and wood.
It features a detachable long-reach wand and a motorized cleaner head. Powered by the Dyson digital motor, it is the most powerful lightweight cordless vacuum.“

Father’s love simple and hate having to meddle with everything. The simpler, the better! This would be the perfect gift for dad this Father’s Day 2012!!

“Father’s Day.  Make dad’s life easier (and cleaner) with the ultimate guy gift — Dyson DC35 Digital Slim cordless Vacuum cleaner.
Unlike traditional cordless vacuums that have a poor battery life, no pick up and are difficult to use — the Dyson DC35 Digital Slim has been engineered for maximum suction. In fact, it’s the most powerful cordless handheld.

Its motorized head uses carbon filaments to remove fine dust from hard surfaces any nylon brushes to remove dirt from carpets. The detachable long reach wand reaches up top, into awkward gaps and down below.”

The Dyson DC35 Digital Slim:

•Boasts a lightweight versatile design that quickly converts to a handheld (so it’s 2-in-1) to easily clean the car, boat, and anywhere in between

•Energy Star battery charger with a fade-free lithium-ion battery, which charges 3 times faster

•Click-in recharging station that hangs vertically to prevent clutter and save space in the man cave

As always, the Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Vacuum sucks dust and dirt like you just wouldn’t believe. I always boast about the Dyson vacuum cleaner to my friends. They are somewhat pricey, but honestly worth every single penny. I’m always amazed how much dust and dirt it collects from my carpet, hardwood floors, and area rugs.

I am sold on anything Dyson Canada carries, and honestly recommend Dyson to everyone out there. Believe me, you won’t be sorry!

The Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Vacuum (made just for Dad) can be found at many retailers at dyson.com and major Canadian retailers: Future Shop, Best Buy, The Bay, Home Outfitters, Sears, Canadian Tire, The Brick, Walmart, Home Depot, and independent retailers across Canada.

The entire book can be downloaded for free at Facebook.com/KFCCanada beginning Monday, June 4. It is not available in book stores or via online book sellers.

“What’s most amazing about the book is that while it was written nearly a half-century ago, both the insightful life lessons and the delicious recipes remain relevant today,” explains Tatiana Carrascal, Senior Marketing Director, KFC Canada. “Because of that, our goal is to share the autobiography with as many people as possible, free of charge. We couldn’t think of a better way to do that than via Facebook.”

“The only thing keeping this book from being a best-seller is that we’re not selling them,” Carrascal said of the free download.

About Colonel Sanders

The Kentucky Fried Chicken concept was pioneered by Colonel Harland Sanders (1890–1980), whose cooking career began at age six. Sanders held jobs ranging from streetcar conductor to insurance salesman, but his cooking skills were a constant throughout his life. In 1930, Sanders operated a service station in Corbin, Ky., and filled the stomachs of hungry travelers who stopped in to fill up their gas tanks. Sanders soon moved his restaurant across the street when he could no longer keep up with the demand from travelers who he had been feeding at his kitchen table. In 1935, the Kentucky Governor made Sanders an honorary Kentucky Colonel for his contributions to the state’s cuisine. Over the next decade, the Colonel perfected his secret blend of 11 herbs and spices and the basic cooking technique still used at KFC today. When Sanders was 65, a new interstate highway forced the closure of his restaurant and he was left with only his recipe for fried chicken and a $105 Social Security check. The Colonel hit the road and struck handshake deals with restaurant owners who agreed to sell his fried chicken. What began as a dream fueled by the Original Recipe, a no-quit attitude and a Social Security check grew into the world’s largest chicken restaurant chain. Until he passed away in 1980 at the age of 90, the Colonel still traveled 250,000 miles a year visiting KFC restaurants around the world.

I was sent a very stunning pair of Semler Sandals to review, and I love them so much! These actually exceeded my expectations, as the picture does not do these awesome sandals justice!

They are called Heidi: Semler Tradition, and come in a very unique and fabulous colour which is called Graphite!

Not only are these sandals of excellent quality, the comfort level blows me away!! The colour is perfect — not too light or dark for the spring/summer. The heel has a stylish height, but not too high - especially good for those who have back issues. The arch and support is also just right. They are made of leather, and these shoes are the most comfortable things I have ever had the pleasure to walk in. They are oh so stylish and fit so nicely.

Semler Shoes Canada gets a huge thumbs up from CoolCanucks, and I strongly recommend this great company to everyone!!!!!

Satisfy Your Cravings for Something Savoury with New Kellogg’s Special K Cracker Chips

Saturday, May 12th, 2012

If potato chips are your weakness like mine, you are indulging in huge amounts of grease & salt, and a phenomenal amount of fat which no doubt makes you feel a little guilty, not to mention sick to your stomach. I recently came upon an newer alternative marketed as a healthier chip, called Special K Cracker Chips! These chips are special because they are only 80 calories for 18 chips, and one can satisfy their hunger without feeling the guilt of consuming too many calories!

A crispy blend of potato and rice and lightly seasoned, this savoury snack is trans-fat free, low in saturated fat, with no artificial flavours or colours. At only $2.99 a box, one really cannot find a cheaper alternative to the greasy potato chips at this low unbeatable price!!

These are an excellent way to satisfy cravings for something savoury without the guilt!!

These cracker chips have a wonderful light and crispy texture, and I loved that they weren’t greasy like all regular potato chips usually are. They sort of melt in your mouth after you crunch on them, and were surprisingly satisfying to be honest. The awesome boxes of Special K Cracker Chips that I got to review and indulge on came in 3 yummy flavors — Original, Cheddar and Sour Cream & Onion!

People eat chips for great taste and crunch, and that’s why I love Special K Cracker Chips now. They taste great AND have fewer calories and less fat than other chips. Because of my ever-slowing metabolism, expanding waistline and indentation in my sofa, I have been having to choose much healthier snacks and eating them in moderation. With 3 array of flavors, there is sure to be one that caters directly to the snacker in you!!

I personally have always been a snacker and since I have started to eat healthier, chips have been completely cut out of my diet. I enjoy popcorn, but it gets boring after awhile. I am very excited to have had the opportunity of trying Special K Cracker Chips. There is nothing boring about them and they really hit the spot when I’m in dire need of a snack.

These are Available now in the cracker aisle of your local store so don’t just take my word for it, grab all 3 flavors today for only $2.99 per box!!

Happy Healthy Snacking Canada!!

“While I’m inspired every day to create and cook for my customers, I’m a big fan of barbecuing; it’s such an authentic and fun way to cook and provides a form of entertainment which is relaxed and casual with very little clean-up,”  says Chef Rob Rossi, 2011 Top Chef Canada contestant and owner of new Toronto restaurant, Bestellen.  “Whether you’re camping, boating, day tripping, urban BBQing, or looking for a family gathering on a moment’s notice, the BIC™ FlameDisk® is a quick and convenient outdoor barbequing solution!”

Canadians Puzzled by Probiotic Health Benefits — Jump-Start Your Intestinal Health with Swiss Natural Probiotic Age

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Canadians have likely heard that probiotics are good to have in our diet but do we really understand the importance of this gut friendly bacteria and how it helps our digestive organs function properly?  New research* from Swiss Natural™, Canada’s trusted provider of vitamins, minerals, herbals and supplements for more than 40 years and the makers of Probiotic Age®, reveals that 42% of Canadians are unfamiliar with what probiotics do.  Furthermore, 65% of Canadians say they have not taken probiotic supplements.

Swiss Natural Probiotic Age is available in Child, Adult and Adult 50+.  They have been scientifically formulated to take the confusion out of probiotics by combining the right strains of friendly bacteria with the right number of active cells, specifically designed for each life stage.  Just one capsule contains the right amount of probiotics your system needs.

Recommended for people suffering from gastrointestinal upset including constipation and diarrhea, probiotics help to restore the normal levels of good bacteria in the intestinal tract that might have been depleted by antibiotic treatments or medications.
Probiotics have also been known to help chronic yeast infections and urinary tract infections.

“Research shows that we need to have friendly bacteria in our bodies to remain healthy and one such type of beneficial bacteria is probiotic bacteria,” says Dr. Elvis Ali, ND, Naturopathic Doctor, Swiss Natural™.  “Probiotic bacteria are live microorganisms that help rebalance our intestinal tract and inhibit the growth of bad bacteria, particularly those responsible for gastrointestinal upset.”

Be Pro-active to lead a Healthy Lifestyle

While the best-known source of probiotics is yogurt that contains live bacteria culture, the experts at Swiss Natural suggest complementing your diet with a probiotic supplement.  Swiss Natural Probiotic Age has 7 times more active cells than the leading probiotic yogurt brand and contains specific strains and colony forming units (c.f.u.) for optimum intestinal health for each specific age range.

“As we age, our bodies change.  Our intestinal flora is made up of different strains that change from childhood to adulthood to seniors,” says Dr. Elvis.  “It’s important to use probiotics that are designed with a specific age group in mind to ensure the most beneficial strains are included in the product.”

A Whole Lot of Probiotics in a Convenient Capsule

The survey also revealed that 39% of all Canadians are not sure if they are getting enough probiotics in their diet and close to half of all Canadians (47%) do not consciously choose foods that contain probiotics.

“Our busy on-the-go lives sometimes make it difficult to find the time to consume foods that contain friendly bacteria.  Almost 40% of Canadians are unsure if they get enough probiotics in their diet from eating certain foods and, as a result, may not be getting enough (probiotics) to help maintain healthy intestinal flora.” says Dr. Elvis.  “Swiss Natural Probiotic Age is a healthy and convenient way for Canadians to consume multiple probiotic strains and the right number of active cells to rebalance their intestinal tract.”

Swiss Natural Probiotic Age is offered in Child, Adult and Adult 50+ and available at all major retailers ($18.99 MSRP).  With no refrigeration required, the easy-open capsules are ideal for those who have difficulty swallowing pills and are blister-packed for freshness and convenience.

Top Five Probiotic Foods to Add to Your Diet

In addition to taking a probiotic supplement such as Swiss Natural Probiotic Age, Canadians can also contribute to their wellness by eating good food sources of probiotics that are fermented, curdled or churned to guarantee live delivery to the gut:

  1. Yogurt – one of the best probiotic foods
  2. Dark Chocolate – a high-quality dark chocolate has 4x the amount of probiotics as many forms of dairy
  3. Sauerkraut – Rich in healthy live cultures including Vitamins B, A, E and C
  4. Miso Soup – A probiotic rich Japanese soup
  5. Pickles – the common green pickle is an excellent food source of probiotics

Survey Says…

The survey also revealed the following insights into Canadians’ point-of-view on probiotics:

  • Of those Canadians who have taken probiotics:
  • 52% say they take them to help maintain overall health
  • 54% say they take probiotics to help with digestion
  • 41% say they take them to help improve immune system

  • Residents of Saskatchewan and Manitoba are most unfamiliar with the health benefits of probiotics (49%) compared to people in British Columbia at 39%

  • Only 49% of Canadian males are familiar with the health benefits of probiotics compared to females at 67%

  • Only 17% of people living in Atlantic Canada have taken probiotic supplements compared to 23% of Ontarians and 30% of Albertans

  • 45% of Canadians aged 55+ are not sure if they get enough probiotics in their diet from eating certain foods and 13% know they do not
