CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ LabelLighthouse.com Stikins Name Labels Review & Giveaway!!

Monday, June 25th, 2012

STIKINS by LabelLighthouse.com are unique stick-on personalized name labels with multiple uses. You can use them to label all of your children’s clothing as well as perhaps their bottles, sippy cups, shoes, boots, books, or just about anything you can think of! Stikins are washer, dryer and dishwasher safe and absolutely perfect for all the clothing and stuff that needs to be labeled for school. These labels come in extremely handy for back to school time.

LabelLighthouse.com has the answer with their very affordable Stikins labels. These handy little labels can be used on everything from clothing to food containers to footwear. They are also a great choice for any adult’s labeling needs, and I will eventually be ordering more to see how they work for all of my husbands tools and personal items. But this time around, I was blessed to be able to review the Stikins Name Labels for my nephew Nate.

We had a blast with our new personalized labels sticking them on all of Nate’s t-shirts, school supplies, etc. and now we don’t have to worry about anything being misplaced which is awesome. Prior to this, Nate was getting his backpack confused with another students because they looked the same, and my sister-in-law said that he was coming home with this other boys packsack on occasion. Now the dilemma has been solved thanks to LabelLighthouse.com.

What a God send these personalized labels are for us!

“When Lena Grierson’s oldest daughter started school, and returned home one time too many without a glove, it was time to start labeling your name on things. Mrs Grierson was surprised to find that there was no fast and easy way of doing that.

“Why not a peel-and-stick label?” she thought. Why not indeed! Thus LabelLighthouse.com was born. Mrs Grierson and her company are the exclusive distributors of Stikins™ self-sticking name labels in North America. The Stikins™ self-sticking ID label is a very easy to apply clothing, shoe and item label. The clothing name label sticks on to the wash care label of the garment and is washer and dryer safe. It couldn’t be any easier. And that of course is the idea.”

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ GlassDharma: The original glass straw Review & Giveaway!!

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

Glass straws? Who knew? How awesome!!

Introducing Glass Dharma Glass straws. In a world turning green, (where plastic is on the outs thank goodness!) everyone seems to be making smarter choices on what they can do to help the environment.

Recycling is an action you must take right now and a vital one considering we are currently using our planet’s resources faster than they can be renewed. Today, tonight and tomorrow recycling is an ongoing awareness to improve our ability to sustain life on Earth. Your role in recycling can be as small or large as you want it to be. Most things can be recycled today, even with our present processing systems.

For some, it can be hard to imagine a world without plastic – especially plastic bags.

The cons of using plastic bags are so overwhelming I don’t think I can think of any pros. They are a huge pollution problem, their lightweight design allows them to blow away easily. The fact that they are free gives them no value so people don’t think about how they dispose of them. They are made from petroleum, which could be used for fuel or energy. They don’t biodegrade, instead they breakdown and are mistaken for food and are often eaten by both land and marine animals which is fatal. They are found everywhere and many animals become fatally entangled.

They are not biodegradable, so they will persist pretty much forever, wherever they end up. Landfills if we are lucky, but because of their widespread use and their ability to fly away in the wind, they can be a big part of the trash along roads and fields. If they get into the water, they look like food and end up clogging the stomachs of a variety of animals, most famously sea turtles looking for jellyfish.

The recycling of plastic bags, while preferable to other disposal methods, is not cost-effective. Plastic bags have only existed for 25 years yet the billions that have been produced since then have caused immeasurable damage to the environment and to wildlife.

David Leonhardt suddenly created GlassDharma: The original glass straw to lower the demand for plastic straws. According to Leonhardt (who did some research on the harmful effects of plastics and plastic straws in particular), “that as of March 2008, McDonald’s serves an average of 52 million meals PER DAY?!? How many of those served do you think were given a plastic straw?” “I hope it is becoming obvious just how big of a problem these pesky little plastic straws can be. Remember, this is just from McDonalds!! Get the picture??” stated Mr. Leonhardt who has been an avid lampworker (glassblower) for over 15 years.

“I started doing some work for a local glass shop in town and noticed that the owner had glass drinking straws for sale. I had never heard of these before and I am always intrigued by something made out of glass that I hadn’t thought of. I was struck by the unique elegance in such a simple item.

I immediately recognized that here was a partial solution to our “plastics problem”. Now, granted, there are a lot more plastics in our world than just drinking straws, but bear with me a minute and let me put things in perspective … As of March 2008, McDonald’s serves an average of 52 million meals PER DAY! (Per their website) How many of those served do you think were given a plastic straw? I hope it is becoming obvious just how big of a problem these pesky little plastic straws can be. Remember, this is just from McDonalds!! Get the picture??

So …

I created the GlassDharma line of glass drinking straws and this website to contribute one solution to the misuse of plastics in our society.

Everyone that has seen these straws are filled with delight. Not just because they promote health and are environmentally friendly, but that they do these things with elegance and style.

Plain and simple, here’s how and why they work:

Glass straws don’t leach toxins into your food as you drink.
Each time you use your glass straw equals one less plastic straw ending up in your landfill.
One glass straw replaces thousands of plastic straws. (How many times will you use a straw the rest of your life?)
Using your glass drinking straw adds a feeling of beauty to your day.

GlassDharma glass drinking straws are:

Made of borosilicate tubing and is the strongest glass commercially available.
Means that we have spared no expense in bringing you the strongest, most durable drinking straw possible.

Annealed to Corning, Inc. specifications (a process that strengthens the glass).
So you can have confidence you are purchasing the highest quality glass straws available.

Made of glass which does not leach ANY TOXINS into your food.
So you can use your non-toxic straws with confidence.

Created with the beauty and elegance that only glass can give.
You’ll feel like royalty – with a touch of ‘glass’.

A great environmental addition to your kitchenware.
Great for hot or cold drinks, microwave and dishwasher safe!!

Are fully backed by our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
If they don’t meetyour expectations, return for a full refund.

Covered with our unbelievable Lifetime Guarantee Against Breakage.
Means that if they ever break, we’ll replace them — Free,
(Why do we do this?)

Hand-made in the U.S.A.
Buying from GlassDharma means that your dollar is not going off-shore — it stays right here in the U.S.A.”

I was sent 3 of these awesome glass straws for review, and I am now absolutely sold on them! They come in a variety of really pretty colours, which makes it super easy that each person can distinguish their drink from anothers! They all come with a handy little wire brush that you simply insert inside of them making these glass straws extremely easy to wash and care for!

My thoughts on Glass Dharma: The original glass straw? Absolutely ingenious! No more plastic straws!! One reusable glass straw replaces thousands of plastic straws. I just had company over the weekend and we sipped beverages on the deck using these phenomenal glass straws. Not only are they excellent for our environment, they also look super classy in the Martini & Margarita Glasses!!!!! My friends really loved them as much as I do!

They even offer a lifetime guarantee on their glass straws!

Lifetime Guarantee Against Breakage

If, for any reason*, your GlassDharma Drinking Straw breaks, you may return the broken straw for repair or replacement. If we cannot restore it to its original condition, we will gladly replace it.

Glass Dharma: The original glass straw gets a huge thumbs up from CoolCanucks, and I promise that I will be ordering many more in the near future! I know that each and every one of you will adore them too!!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ Dr. Lucy’s Yummy gluten free Cookies Review & Giveaway!!

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

Dr. Lucy’s Yummy gluten free Cookies are made without milk, eggs, peanuts or tree nuts, but you’d never know it—they’re delicious! Now one can enjoy gluten free cookies that taste so good and satisfies the sweet tooth!

Heavenly, gluten-free cookies are hard to find, but Dr. Lucy has found a way to beat that by creating the most delicious, gluten-free, vegan and allergy-free cookies on the market today. This company also sells many delectable flavors that honestly tickles the taste buds!

When Dr. Lucy Gibney learned her child had severe food allergies, she got down to some serious medical research — in the kitchen. Today, Lucy’s cookies stand as delicious proof that no one should have to sacrifice tasty treats because of their dietary concerns.

“Our Quality Assurance Program provides delicious treats for you and your family while doing everything we can to safeguard you from these specific allergens: gluten, milk, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts.”

With Dr. Lucy’s certifications for gluten-free, kosher and vegan products – you’re certain to find the perfect treat everytime!!

These cookies come in many tantilating flavors: Sugar Cookie, Cinnamon Thin, Oatmeal Cookie, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Maple Bliss, and even Ginger Snap!

All the cookies are made from a similar cookie “base” that consists of the in-house flour blend (garbanzo, potato starch, gluten-free oat, tapioca, sorghum and fava), evaporated cane juice, soy milk, several oils (palm fruit, soybean, canola and olive), filtered water, flavoring and citric acid from corn, crushed soybeans, soy lecithin, non-dairy lactic acid, beta carotene, baking powder, baking soda, salt, xanthan gum, calcium carbonate, annatto extract color, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, and methylcellulose.

Dr. Lucy’s cookies website describes the cookies as “crispy, crunchy,” and they hit the nail directly on the head. There is not a chewy bit to be found in these cookies. They’re seriously crunchy throughout. If you like your cookies crunchy, you’ll love these from the first bite to the last bite (which is often one and the same bite… since the cookies are pretty tiny, you can pop a whole cookie in your mouth all at once) and not even feel guilty!!

I received three boxes of these amazing cookies. The three flavors sent to me were Chocolate Chip, Ginger Snap, and Maple Bliss. All three flavors were extremely tasty and enjoyed by the entire household. No one complained, and even walked back for seconds. Melyssa is a really picky eater, and so when I am sent food or drink items to review, they must pass her taste test first. She gave Dr. Lucy’s Yummy gluten free Cookies a very big thumbs up, and continued to snack on them throughout the course of the evening. So if she loves them, I definitely know that you will love them! I really liked the yumminess of Dr. Lucy’s cookies too. What a great anytime snack, and also a welcomed addition to everyone’s lunch bag around here!

Dr. Lucy’s gluten free Cookies gets a huge thumbs up from CoolCanucks, and I will definitely be ordering more in the near future!!
