CoolCanucks Blog Contest ~ 100th Birthday Limited Edition Oreo Cookie Review & Giveaway

Monday, February 27th, 2012

When someone mentions Oreo Cookies, I am in. Being an Oreo addict from way back, I choose Oreo Cookies first before any other brand of cookie.

Oreo is a trademark for a popular cookie sandwich by the Nabisco Division of Kraft Foods. The current design consists of a sweet, white filling commonly referred to as ‘cream’, sandwiched between two circular chocolate or golden cookie pieces. And to complete my favorite oreo cookie is a huge glass of cold milk. Over 491 billion Oreo cookies have been sold since they were first introduced, making them the best selling cookie of the 20th century.

Oreo in Greek means “Beautiful”, and that is what I see when I plop down a mound of Oreo’s to enjoy! Mmmmmm ~ absolute goodness!!

How do you eat your Oreo? Personally, I eat them whole, bite after luscious bite.

While doing a little research on how others eat their Oreo’s, I came across a website called www.myfoodmaps.com and here is what they had to say:

Oreos:  An Interactive Food

“One of the keys to Oreo’s success is its interactivity.  Think about it – you don’t just eat it — you can dunk it, bite it, or twist it apart.  Oreo lovers, psychologists, and food writers have all speculated about whether the way someone eats their Oreo indicates a personality type.

According to a History.com video, in 2004, Kraft (Nabisco is now a Kraft brand), surveyed over 2000 Oreo eaters and found that they are divided into three categories:
•Dunkers tend to be energetic, adventurous, and extremely social. 87% of dunkers say milk is their liquid of choice for dunking.
•Twisters — and who hasn’t twisted an Oreo – (I personally think it makes the Oreo last longer ‘cause you get two cookies) – tend to be emotional, sensitive, artistic, and trendy.
•Biters are easy going, self-confident, and optimistic.

The survey also discovered that more women tend to be dunkers while men tend to be biters.  And, Democrats tend to twist, Republicans tend to dunk!”

Happy Birthday Oreo!

An Icon for All Ages:

Oreo Cookie Celebrates its 100th Birthday!!

It’s time to raise your glass of milk because the world’s favourite cookie is turning 100!  That’s right!  Oreo – the cookie made famous for its “twist, lick and dunk” – marks its 100th birthday on March 6th, 2012.

·               100 years ago, Oreo was created in a bakery in Chelsea, New York. This same year, Canada’s population was around 7.2 million people; the Calgary Stampede welcomed its first cowboys; and the Grey Cup was established.

·               Oreo cookies were originally sold in bulk for 30 cents a pound.

·               Now available in 100 countries, more than $1.5 billion of Oreo cookies are sold every year.  Canada is the fourth biggest Oreo market in the world, following the United States, China, and Venezuela.

·               Today, the Canadian Oreo bakery on Viau Street in Montreal bakes more than 1.1 million Oreo cookies in an eight hour shift.

·               There are more than 23 million Oreo Facebook fans in 183 countries, including 40 in Vatican City and 850,000 in Canada.

·               Twist, Lick and Dunk is a part of our psyche with 50 per cent of all Oreo eaters pulling apart their cookies before eating.  Women twist them open more often than men.

The Oreo 100th Birthday celebration is taking place in more than 20 countries around the world, including Canada.  And all Canadians can bring the celebration home with a special, limited-edition Birthday Cake Oreo cookie, available at the end of February.

Make sure go to Oreo100.ca and see this awesome 100th Birthday story! Also, Visit Oreo on Facebook to help celebrate 100 years of Oreo by uploading your favourite, fun-filled Oreo moments.

As you all know, spring is just around the corner! Coming with the nicer weather is warmth and sunshine. We all want to be outdoors in the warmth and sunshine, at least almost everyone I know does! My family and friends spend a lot of time together in the summer, especially in the outdoors. It brings happiness, good times, and creates great memories.

Whether it’s spending time at the cottage, or hiking through the woods, everyone should own some sort of first aid kit and have it on them at all times in case of an unfortunate and unexpected little accidents. You know as well as I that the little ones often fall and skin their knees, or perhaps someone get’s stung by a dreaded bee or wasp! You always want to be prepared.
